Cocaine Use USA

Below is a graph and tables reporting the data on Cocaine use USA. This data comes from the US National Data survey reported in 2004. This table reports on those who have 'ever' used cocaine. So the data could, and will, contain people who have tried cocaine even once.

The first thing to notice about this data is the Total percentage of people who had ever used, 14.4%, for a class A drug this is a large percentage.

The second thing to notice is the pattern of use across the age groups. By far the largest user group is the 35-49 year olds. Since the beatnicks in the 1950s we have seen fashions in drugs come and go for example LSD and Ecstasy, although marijuana use has been fairly stable (see statistics for marijuana use here).

The peak time when Cocaine was at its most fashionable was the mid 80s and early 90s. At that time it was considered to be the champagne of drugs, used by celebrities and music stars, as it was also very expensive. If we look at these statistics the highest cocaine use is in the 35-49 age group. This group would be in their 20s and 30s during this time, young enough to be drug users but mature enough to have a disposal income that could buy expensive drugs.
